Sven Botman has committed his long-term future to Newcastle United by signing a new contract at St James’ Park.

The Dutch centre-back’s previous deal was due to expire at the end of the 2026–27 season, but the new agreement extends his stay until 2030.

The renewal represents a significant boost for Newcastle as they continue to stabilise their squad.

Botman said he was delighted to reach an agreement after what he described as an important period of personal and professional growth at the club.

He credited Newcastle with helping him develop both on and off the pitch and stressed that he feels he still has much more to give in the years ahead.

The defender has made 17 appearances in all competitions this season, forming a regular partnership at centre-back when fit.

His campaign was briefly disrupted by a back injury that sidelined him between November and December.

Botman returned to action last week and featured in the 4-3 home victory over Leeds United, marking a positive step in his recovery.

Manager Eddie Howe described the contract extension as excellent news for the club and praised Botman’s attitude and consistency since his arrival.

Howe highlighted the defender’s mentality, work ethic and influence within the dressing room.

He also expressed confidence that Botman’s best years at the club are still to come.

Since joining from Lille in 2022, Botman has been a key figure when available, particularly during his debut season.

He played a central role in Newcastle’s fourth-place Premier League finish that year, which secured Champions League qualification.

Botman has now made 93 appearances for the club, nearly half of them coming in that first campaign.

His time on Tyneside has been disrupted by serious injuries, including an anterior cruciate ligament injury that limited him to just 10 appearances last season.

Further knee problems followed, ruling him out of the League Cup final victory over Liverpool.

Despite those setbacks, Newcastle have remained confident in Botman’s long-term value to the squad.

Sporting director Ross Wilson moved quickly to address Botman’s contract situation after assessing the squad following his appointment.

With the defender approaching the final stages of his previous deal, securing an extension removed a potential long-term concern.
