Manchester City continue their Carabao Cup campaign with a trip to South Wales to face off against Championship side Swansea City on Wednesday night.
Pep Guardiola’s side will be hoping to return to winning ways following a 1-0 defeat to Unai Emery’s Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon courtesy of a solitary goal from Matty Cash in the first-half.
The last time we saw City in Carabao Cup action came last month as they swept aside League One outfit Huddersfield Town away from home in a comfortable 0-2 victory thanks to goals from Phil Foden and Savinho, and fans will be hoping for more of the same this time around.
Manchester City struggled to create too much in the way of clear-cut chances for Erling Haaland at the weekend in an attacking display that saw wingers Savinho and Oscar Bobb draw criticism for largely being out of ideas and lacking end product.
The League Cup provides the perfect stage for experimentation and may allow players such as Rayan Cherki and Omar Marmoush to shake off the rust following spells on the sidelines, along with allowing opportunities for the struggling young wingers to regain some confidence ahead of some tough Premier League and Champions League clashes in the coming weeks.
Last time out, Aston Villa took the lead in the 19th minute from a brilliantly taken Matty Cash strike, and the home side did well to stay ahead against a City line-up that looked somewhat reminiscent of last season’s displays.
Many have been quick to point out the absence of a natural holding midfielder that may have been the deciding factor in the defeat, with Nico starting on the bench and Rodri absent through injury.
Swansea City come into this match-up having advanced past Premier League opposition in the form of an Ange Postecoglou-led Nottingham Forest in a 3-2 victory in round three. The Welsh side also most recently beat Norwich City in a close-run 2-1 match in league action.
Here is everything you need to know ahead of the fourth round Carabao Cup clash against Swansea City at the Swansea.com Stadium.
Manchester City will make their way to South Wales to face Swansea City at the Swansea.com Stadium on Wednesday 29 September, with kick-off is scheduled for 19:45 (UK).

Swansea coach Alan Sheehan boasts a fully-fit squad at his disposal coming into this clash, with the exception of centre-back Ricardo Santos, who misses out due to a knee injury. Midfielder Malick Yalcouye will be eligible to return after missing the win against Norwich through suspension.
Pep Guardiola’s squad continues to get stronger with superstar midfielder Rodri making his return to training this week following Sunday afternoon’s defeat to Aston Villa in the Midlands.
Abdukodir Khusanov has also been absent from training since being substituted with an injury in the 1-1 draw against Arsenal in September, but has since returned and could be in contention for a matchday squad appearance this week.
Rayan Ait-Nouri, Omar Marmoush, and Rayan Cherki are all expected to be in contention to make their first starts since returning to full Manchester City training after the international break and their respective fitness issues.
With the two returning players, Pep Guardiola now has his entire squad available to select from, giving him a selection headache in the best possible way.
On Erling Haaland: “I didn’t see him today but it was a knock [vs Aston Villa] and I think day-by-day he’s better. But now we train this afternoon and we’ll know more exactly how does he feel.”
Swansea (A) is the type of game where Erling Haaland can be rested, says Guardiola.
On Rodri: “Rodri is still not [ready]; he’s getting better, training with us partially. But after what happened two times, prior incidents in muscular, we’re going to see how he evolves this week.”
There is currently no timeframe as to when Rodri will be ready to return to the matchday squad, says Guardiola.
On Rayan Ait-Nouri: “He’s ready. He’s fit and ready, available.”
Abdukodir Khusanov is “ready to play a few minutes” for against Swansea, says Guardiola.
Kalvin Phillips will ‘maybe’ travel to Swansea this week but will not start, says Guardiola.
Swansea City and Manchester City have faced each other a total of 37 times in all competitions, with their first meeting coming back in 1926 – a match that ended 3-1 with the latter coming away as the victors.
Over the 37 match-ups, Manchester City have scored a total of 88 goals, while Swansea have managed 43. The Blues have been the winners in 26 meetings, while Swansea have won seven, and their last win coming in a 1-0 home victory back in 2011.
A stalemate has been the result on only four occasions between these two sides, with the last coming in 2016 with Manuel Pellegrini at the helm at Manchester City at that time.
The two sides last faced each other four years ago in the FA Cup fifth round – a game that saw Manchester City leave South Wales with a 1-3 win. Goals that day came from Kyle Walker, Raheem Sterling, and Gabriel Jesus.
