Tactical reasons are the key to Inter Milan eyeing up a surprise move for Monza attacking midfielder Daniel Maldini.

Today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. report that the Nerazzurri are big fans of the 22-year-old’s dribbling ability in particular.

Links between Inter and Maldini have emerged in recent days.

Reports indicate that Nerazzurri Sporting Director Piero Ausilio was at Monza’s recent Serie A match against Roma. Scouting Maldini was one of the main priorities for the executive.

Naturally, a move for Maldini by Inter would raise some eyebrows.

The Monza attacking midfielder bears a famous name. He is the son of legendary former AC Milan captain Paolo Maldini.

Maldini in fact came through the youth ranks at the Rossoneri.

However, the 22-year-old has had to make his name at other clubs after failing to real break through at Milan.

Maldini has built his reputation on loan with the likes of Spezia, Empoli, and Monza.

Over the summer he joined the Brianzoli on a permanent basis, and he has put in some outstanding performances for the Lombard club at the start of this season.

Tactical Reasons Key To Inter Interest In Daniel Maldini

Inter’s interest in Maldini may be quite a surprise given his strong connection to their derby rivals.

But according to Tuttosport, there is a clear tactical rationale behind the Nerazzurri wanting to sign Maldini.

There is one particular attribute that the Nerazzurri feel is lacking in their attack.

That is a player with dribbling ability in tight spaces who can open up matches.

The Nerazzurri certainly have goals in their attacking options. And they also have physical presence and holdup play.

But the closest thing that Inter have to a tricky and technical player is Marcus Thuram.

And the Frenchman has been looking to play more and more as an out-and-out striker attacking the space in behind opposition defensive lines this season.

Over the summer, Inter had reportedly targeted Albert Gudmundsson before he eventually joined Fiorentina from Genoa.

But missing out on Gudmundsson doesn’t mean that Inter have stopped aiming to sign a player with proficient dribbling ability.

And according to Tuttosport, former Milan man Maldini could very well be that player.
