The Tribunal Arbitral do Desporto, TAD, has rejected Benfica’s general director for football Mário Branco’s appeal, confirming a 68-day suspension and a 7,650-euro fine.
According to Glorioso 1904, the court deemed his arguments insufficient to overturn the punishment, which followed remarks aimed at the referee and VAR after a 2-2 draw with Casa Pia on the ninth of November 2025.
The ruling records that he accepted his comments were inappropriate and incorrect, though he argued the suspension and fine were clearly disproportionate, unjust and unreasonable in light of the principle of fault.
He is said to have directed threats and insults at referee Gustavo Correia and the VAR following the match.
The TAD also ordered him to cover procedural costs of around 50 thousand euros.
The decision comes as Benfica prepare to face Arouca.
