Taffarel to assess Corinthians keeper Hugo Souza during Santos clash ahead of Brazil squad announcement | OneFootball

Taffarel, Brazil’s goalkeeping coach and a 1994 World Cup winner, will watch Corinthians goalkeeper Hugo Souza in Sunday’s trip to Santos at Vila Belmiro. According to Meu Timao, members of the Seleção staff will attend the Clássico Alvinegro.

Assistants Mino Fulco, Franchesco Mauri and Bruno Baquete will also be in attendance in the Baixada Santista.

It will not be the first time Brazil’s staff have monitored Corinthians from the stands. Late last month, head coach Carlo Ancelotti and executive coordinator Rodrigo Caetano were at the Mineirão for the Brasileiro meeting with Cruzeiro.

The visit comes one day before the March call-up, scheduled for 16 March, for friendlies against France and Croatia. It is the final list before the definitive World Cup squad.

Since Ancelotti took charge, Hugo Souza has been called up on every occasion, starting only once, on 14 October, in a 3-2 friendly defeat to Japan.

Before the derby, Corinthians host Coritiba at Neo Química Arena on Wednesday at 21:30 in the fifth round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
