The latest club featured in PortuGOAL’s “Talk of the Town” series focuses on one of the most interesting projects in Portuguese football right now – the ascension of Futebol Clube de Alverca.

The team from a small town 20 kilometres north of the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, has hit the headlines in recent months for several reasons.

Firstly, back-to-back promotions has seen them return to the Primeira Liga two decades after their last appearance in Portugal’s top flight. Secondly, the identity of one of the investors at the modest outfit is none other than Real Madrid and Brazil star Vinícius Júnior.

Finally, the club made the unprecedented decision to completely revamp their squad ahead of the new season, bringing a remarkable 36 new players into the club, most of whom are teenagers or in their early twenties, with just a single footballer from previous seasons remaining at the club.
