Tamires: Corinthians at Club World Cup, praises 2026 signings

Corinthians arrived last Wednesday (21st) in London, England, to begin the final phase of preparation for the FIFA Women's Champions Cup. One of the main names in the squad and a multi-champion with the club, full-back Tamires spoke about the Brabas' expectations for their debut participation in the Women's World Cup.

“First of all, this is another super important cycle in the journey that Corinthians has built over the years. Corinthians truly deserves to be in this Champions Cup. I hope we can do an excellent job. We are working hard to keep doing everything we've been doing over the years. To come out with a victory, do a great job, and make the fans proud,” said the player in an interview with Meu Timão last Tuesday (20th), before the trip to Europe.

The competition, held in England, marks Timão’s first commitment of the 2026 season. After finishing as runners-up in the Paulistão and a vacation period, the black-and-white squad returned to CT Joaquim Grava on January 5th. Pre-season ends on the 28th, the date of their debut against Gotham FC from the United States.

“We only had 15 days off. It was important that we talked, that all the girls tried to train, even though it was our rest period, so that we could come back in the best way possible. And that’s what happened. So after our return on the 5th, we had a very good preparation so we could travel in the best possible shape,” recalled Tamires.

At 37 years old, in her eighth season at Parque São Jorge, the full-back is seeking her 18th title with the Corinthians jersey. The title would place her in the top 3 most decorated athletes in the club, as Vic Albuquerque and Gabi Zanotti have 18 trophies and would reach 19 with another title. Frequently the team captain, Tamires commented on her leadership role within the group.

“I handle it very naturally. We have a team that mixes young and experienced girls, but everyone respects and listens to each other. That will be essential at the World Cup. Knowing that we win as a team. If you think individually, you win nothing. It’s the group that is united, with this strong mentality of team unity,” said the full-back.

For the start of the season, Corinthians has at least five new signings: defender Agustina Barroso, midfielders Ana Vitória and Paola Garcia, and forwards Rhaizza and Belén Aquino. Only the defender was not registered for the World Cup. Without revealing the starting lineup, Tamires highlighted the quick adaptation of the new players.

“The coach hasn't defined the team yet, but all the girls who arrived, arrived very well, they came to add. In the short time they've had with us, they've already shown how much they understand this work methodology, what Corinthians represents. That makes all the difference so they can adapt as quickly as possible and perform well at Corinthians,” she explained.

Even almost ten thousand kilometers away from Brazil, the Brabas received support from fans in London. Members of Fiel Londres, a group of Corinthians supporters in the UK, celebrated to welcome the delegation. A strong black-and-white presence is expected at the Gtech Community Stadium, the venue for the semifinal.

“Amazing. We are very happy with this affection, and I hope we can fill the stadiums, with lots of people there wearing the Corinthians shirt, shouting ‘poropopó’, singing, cheering, because we know how much of a difference that makes,” concluded the full-back.

Corinthians faces Gotham FC next Wednesday, the 28th, at 9:30 am (Brasília time). The other semifinal will be between Arsenal, from England, and ASFAR, from Morocco.
