Southampton prodigy Ronnie Edwards has further progressed on his upward trajectory as he earns his first England U21 call-up.
Alas! Finally, the way we Southampton fans wanted, the March International break is proceeding that way. A holiday from those relegation fears as everyone gets to see the Saints adorn the national jerseys.
And why is it special this time? Well, arguably, this is one of the rare breaks that has seen a plethora of call-ups for the Southampton camp.
Notably, keeper Gavin Bazunu and defender Ryan Manning for Ireland, and Saints keeper Aaron Ramsdale for England's senior team. But that's not all, as in youth setups, Tyler Dibling for U19 and Taylor Harwood-Bellis for U21 have made it for the Three Lions as well.
Well, that's still not all, as there's another well-deserved national call-up for a Saints prodigy. It’s Southampton loanee centre-back Ronnie Edwards.
As per a recent update, Edwards has earned a squad spot for England U21's scheduled friendlies against France and Portugal.
Come on, don’t tell me you've forgotten Southampton’s 21-year-old star. After all, if there's one, who has the potential to lead the Saints' backline after Harwood-Bellis' departure, it's him.
In case you feel I am exaggerating, just review his Queen Park Rangers loan spell numbers. So far, Edwards has marked 13 appearances, without a break, leading the Championship side's defence line all alone.
In fact, since QPR boss Marti Cifuentes' praise, Edwards has never looked back as he now feels like taking steps for his inaugural U21 England game.
Now, just imagine the scenario if Ronnie Edwards and Taylor Harwood-Bellis lead the Three Lions' defensive backline, even if for just a few minutes. To say the least, it will be a mesmerizing scene for Saints fans.
Well, surely, with stars like Edwards, Harwood-Bellis and Tyler Dibling, Southampton's contribution to England's national setup looks very promising.
Hopefully, the trio continues shining both for the Saints and for the national side.
