João Pedro Tchoca said his goal in Corinthians’ 1-1 draw at Cruzeiro came at a special moment, helping to wash the soul after Torino’s medical veto.

The centre-back spoke at Mineirão after the fourth-round Brasileiro fixture on Wednesday. According to Globo.com, he insisted he is 100% fit despite being turned down following medical tests in Italy.

He said the decision surprised him, adding he left Brazil in playing condition and featured against Capivariano two days after returning. He believed any issue lay with Torino, not with him, and hopes to contribute across the season.

At the end of January, Corinthians loaned Tchoca to Torino for 1.5 million euros, around R$ 9.5 million, until June. The deal included an obligation to buy for 4.5 million euros, R$ 28.2 million, if he played 10 matches of at least 45 minutes. Torino sent him back after he did not pass the club’s medical.

Corinthians were surprised by the veto and viewed it as a medical interpretation, noting the defender had no chronic problem and had been regularly selected by coach Dorival Júnior.

The draw extended Corinthians’ unbeaten run to five matches across the Paulista and Brasileiro. Tchoca said the side are becoming more streetwise and want to keep progressing and win more over the campaign.

Corinthians face Novorizontino in the Paulistão semi-finals on Saturday at 20:30, Brasília time.
