The Athletic are joining in the pile of publications looking at what’s going wrong at Chelsea, and their man Simon Johnson has considered one moment from the defeat at Everton which shows the issues.

“Nobody expects players to be happy at this stage, but the team spirit just does not seem right,” Johnson wrote.

“There was a moment in the first half at the new Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday when Pedro Neto took a pass that was heading in Cole Palmer’s direction on the edge of the box. The latter jumped up and down and shouted at his team-mate in frustration. His protestations continued for several seconds.”

Chelsea angry at least other, disillusioned with the coach and not willing to turn things around

Johnson has to be a bit more diplomatic, but we can say it clearly – the team reeks of frustration and resignation. This was just one moment, but barely anyone on the pitch looks like they really believe anymore. The hardest working and most competitive players – look at Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Marc Cucurella, for example – have now seemingly chucked it in with the rest of their teammates.

In other news…

The Athletic have been naming the best Premier League attackers ever, and there’s one Chelsea star in the mix.

Perhaps this young wonderkid could be the next Hazard? It’s a big ask for anyone…
