Barry Ferguson has named his Rangers team for this afternoon’s Glasgow Derby against Celtic. The Ibrox club were fortunate from the spot on Thursday as they beat Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce on penalties to progress to the Europa League Quarter Finals.
Rangers: Butland, Sterling, Tavernier, Souttar, Balogun, Yilmaz, Barron, Raskin, Diomande, Cerny, Dessers.
Subs: Kelly, Propper, Lawrence, Bajrami, Nsiala, Igamane, Hagi, Rice, Danilo.
Rangers have lost two of their last three league games (W1), as many as their previous 18 beforehand (W12 D4). The Gers could lose successive matches in the Scottish Premiership for the first time since March 2018 under Graeme Murty.
Elsewhere, Brendan has named his Celtic team and there are two major omissions from the squad with neither Callum McGregor nor Auston Trusty. Polish central defender Maik Nawrocki comes in from the cold to start alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers.
The Scottish Champions: Schmeichel, Johnston, Carter-Vickers, Nawrocki, Schlupp, McCowan, Engels, Hatate, Kuhn, Jota, Maeda.
Subs: Sinisalo, Taylor, Idah, Yang, Kenny, Murray, Ralston, Bonnar, Turley.
Ferguson will be the seventh different Rangers manager to face Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic in all competitions (also Mark Warburton, Graeme Murty, Pedro Caixinha, Steven Gerrard, Michael Beale, and Philippe Clement). In the club’s history, no other Hoops boss has faced more than four different Gers managers.
