The Norwegian international netted a treble in a 4-0 semi-final success over PSV in midweek and she was the match-winner at the 3Arena this evening.
Manchester United and Hammarby both had chances in a goalless first half. Anna Sandberg fired a shot over for The Red Devils while Julia Zigiotti Olme also tried her luck without success. Hammarby’s best chance of the opening 45 minutes fell the way of defender Sofia Reidy but she was denied by the woodwork.
Marc Skinner’s side went close early in the second half. Celin Bizet Ildhusøy somewhat rushed her shot and the ball was blocked by opposition keeper Melina Loeck. Melvine Malard then had a go from the rebound but she failed to hit the target.
Manchester United eventually broke the deadlock just after the hour mark when Malard played in Terland for a trademark finish from close range.
Ella Toone saw an effort pushed over the bar late on as Manchester United searched for a second goal. In the end, The Red Devils were made to settle for a gritty 1-0 victory at a venue which is well-known to be difficult for opposing sides.
Following this evening’s victory, Manchester United move into the UEFA Women’s Champions League’s third qualifying round. The draw for the next phase takes place at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland at 11am on Sunday morning. Ties will be played out in the traditional format over two legs, home and away.
