Terry Cunningham, who for many years ran St Nicholas AFC, an amateur club in east Leeds, has died, his family confirmed, describing him as a legend of East Leeds.
The news prompted tributes across the city, with many praising his dedication to local football and his support for players, officials and volunteers.
Cunningham was a respected presence in the community beyond the pitch, notably through his involvement at St Nicholas Catholic Primary School in Gipton.
He acted as caretaker at the school while living in a bungalow on the grounds.
In March 2025, he reportedly left the school grounds and moved into a local care home.
No further details about his death have been released.
