Olympique de Marseille triumphed in the highly anticipated "Olympico" showdown, defeating arch-rivals Olympique Lyonnais 3-2 in a fiercely contested Ligue 1 clash.
Lyon drew first blood with Corentin Tolisso striking in the 3rd minute. After the break, Igor Paixão brought Marseille level early in the second half.
Lyon reclaimed the lead in the 76th minute through Rémy Hebert. But Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang stole the show, netting a dramatic brace in the 81st and 91st minutes to hand Marseille a spectacular comeback win.
This match also marked a historic moment for Senegalese coach Habib Beye, who led Marseille to victory in this prestigious Olympico.
Beye thus becomes the first manager to win his debut official Olympico with Marseille since Belgian tactician Raymond Goethals achieved the feat in 1991.
The former Senegal international also set an unprecedented record in Ligue 1 history: he is the first coach to defeat Lyon in the same season with two different clubs, having already accomplished the feat while in charge of Stade Rennais.
