NY Times notes goals from corners have surged to unprecedented levels in the Premier League this season. Set pieces matter more than ever in 2025-26, with teams favouring inswingers into crowded six-yard areas, though variety remains.
From more than 2,500 corners, 140 that led to goals were shortlisted, then 10 chosen for both idea and execution.
Emile Smith Rowe slipped behind Burnley’s zonal line as Fulham’s blockers held position, turning in Harry Wilson’s outswinger. At Tottenham, Matthijs de Ligt shed his marker with a dummy, Mason Mount screened Vicario and he headed in Bruno Fernandes’ cross. Aston Villa’s Matty Cash thumped in after a short corner drew Sunderland deep, with Morgan Rogers’ movement clearing the shot.
Tottenham emptied the back post against Everton, Bentancur nodding across for Micky van de Ven to head in. Arsenal exploited Gabriel at the near post against Fulham, his flick finding Leandro Trossard at the back.
Crystal Palace vacated the back post at West Ham, Adam Wharton’s block freeing Marc Guehi to attack, and Jean-Philippe Mateta finished the rebound. Fulham neutralised Aston Villa’s near-post trio, allowing Raul Jimenez to glance Sasa Lukic’s corner into the far side.
A rapid short routine against Newcastle dragged markers, Martin Odegaard fed Declan Rice to cross, and Mikel Merino beat Sven Botman with a header. Versus Tottenham, Amad’s decoy opened a lane for Kobbie Mainoo to find Bryan Mbeumo, who finished low.
Brentford’s blocks and dummies opened the back post against Burnley, leaving Mikkel Damsgaard free to head in.
