The 11 Sunderland stars hoping to shine at this summer's World Cup finals

11 Sunderland players are heading to this summer’s World Cup across the United States, Canada and Mexico. According to Sunderland Echo, the call-ups cap a season that ended with Europa League qualification after a final-day win over Chelsea.
Captain Granit Xhaka will lead Switzerland against Canada, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Qatar. He scored a penalty in Sunday’s friendly with Jordan and will complete preparations against Australia on Saturday. DR Congo have named Noah Sadiki and Arthur Masuaku, with Group K meetings against Colombia, Portugal and debutants Uzbekistan.
Wilson Isidor, who debuted for Haiti this year and scored against Iceland after earlier facing Tunisia, joins a group with Brazil, Scotland and Morocco. Chemsdine Talbi is in Morocco’s squad in Group C, where Isidor awaits.
Brian Brobbey and Robin Roefs are in the Netherlands squad to play Japan, Sweden and Tunisia. Record signing Habib Diarra is with Senegal in Group I alongside Iraq, Norway and France.
Omar Alderete is set to be the first Sunderland player in action when Paraguay meet co-hosts the United States on day two, then Australia and Türkiye follow in Group D. Nilson Angulo’s Ecuador face Germany, Ivory Coast and newcomers Curacao, while Simon Adingra lines up for Ivory Coast against the same trio.
