Atletico Madrid are reportedly interested in the services of Manchester United star Manuel Ugarte. So is the midfielder willing to jump ship after a solitary year at Old Trafford?
The Montevideo native made the move from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, completing a tranfer worth circa £42 million. Although he scored a brilliant volley at Everton last weekend that salvaged a point for the struggling Red Devils, the 23-year-old had his highs and lows this season.
So despite signing a long-term contract running until June 2029 (with an option for another year), Fichajes.net believes the player could be offered an escape rope from Man Utd’s troubles, as Diego Simeone has added him to his summer shortlist.
The Spanish portal believes Atletico will be in the market for a new midfielder come June. The Colchoneros are searching for a profile capable of shielding the backline while also advancing the play.

The source thus reveals three potential candidates for the role, beginning with Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes who has been a stalwart for Newcastle United over the past few years. The second option is Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi who is heavily tipped to reunite with Mikel Merino at Arsenal next season.
Finally, the report mentions Ugarte who could be tempted by a move to Spain, especially with a club that is set to play in the Champions League next season.
Antony’s early exploits in LaLiga could be an encouraging factor for the Uruguay international. The Brazilian winger endured two and a half underwhelming years at Old Trafford, but has hit the ground running since joining Real Betis on loan. He has thus far made five direct goal contributions in as many appearances for the Andalusians.
However, one would expect Ruben Amorim to cling onto his old Sporting CP pupil, especially after cementing himself as his first-choice central midfielder.
