There are plenty of high profile managers in World football who find themselves out of work and waiting for a new job to come along.

Some are fresh from the sack, whereas others are waiting for the right job to come along after departing their former club on their own accord.

Here are some of the best managers in football without a job…

Erik ten Hag

With his departure from Manchester United only confirmed two weeks ago, ten Hag has already been linked with his next potential job, with out of sorts Italian side AS Roma looking for their third manager of the season already. The Dutchman might have not won many plaudits during his time at Old Trafford, but despite the struggles he faced for much of his two and a half years in the Red Devils dugout, the 54-year-old was still able to deliver trophies to the red side of Manchester.

Xavi

The legendary Spanish midfielder turned manager had a rather sour ending to his time at Barcelona, where he won two trophies with the Catalan side. After impressing at Qatari team Al Saad, Xavi was brought in by his former side to replace the sacked Ronald Koeman. There, after a trophyless first season, Barcelona won La Liga and the Supercopa Espana in 2022/23. The following season saw Xavi announce his departure at the end of the season, before being convinced to stay then getting sacked after the season had finished.

Zinedine Zidane

It is crazy to think that Zinedine Zidane has not managed any club since he departed Real Madrid at the end of the 20/21 season. The French legend managed Los Blancos on two separate occasions, with his first bringing nine trophies in just over two seasons, with three consecutive Champions League titles as well. His second spell might have been less successful with just two trophies, but the former France captain left a lasting impact on the record UCL winners.

Maurizio Sarri

The pragmatic Italian has been out of work since leaving Italian side Lazio with a couple months left of the 2023/24 season after almost three seasons in charge. Winner of Serie A with Juventus and the Europa League with Chelsea, Sarri has managed sone of the biggest clubs in Italy and Europe, with his possession heavy style one that divides opinion. Whether the 65-year-old returns to management is yet to be seen, but his quality is undoubted.

Massimilliano Allegri

Another ex-Juventus manager on this list, Allegri departed the Allianz Stadium this summer with his second spell at the club coming to an end. With only one trophy in all competitions to show for his efforts in two seasons in Turin, Allegri was replaced by fellow Italian Thiago Motta. Hi return to the Old Lady should not deter clubs from giving the Italian ago, with ten previous trophies won at Juventus and a further three at fellow Italian side AC Milan. Yet to try his hand in management outside of his native land.

Edin Terzic

A departure that shocked many, especially given how days before Terzic had led Borussia Dortmund to a heartbreaking defeat in the Champions League final at Wembley. Previously linked to West Ham before Julen Lopetegui took over, where he was assistant to Slaven Bilic between 2015 and 2017, the German-Croatian has two trophies to his name with Der BVB, and at 42-years-old, has time on his hand to find the right club for him in the future.
