The Swans have been one of the form teams since February

Swansea City won a fifth straight league game for the first time since December 2007 on Easter Monday away at QPR.

Alan Sheehan has completely transformed a Swansea side who looked like they were sleepwalking into a relegation battle under Luke Williams into a team who, albeit unlikely, can still mathematically finish in the top six with two games to go.

The Swans haven't slowed down under Sheehan, even when he was announced to remain as head coach until the end of the season in late March and, if the option opens up for the 38-year-old to become the permanent boss, then many Swansea fans will be hoping he signs on.

Luke Williams was sacked as Swansea City manager on February 17th following a 3-1 loss to Stoke City. The Swans sat 17th, eight points above the relegation zone.

Swansea won their first game under caretaker boss Alan Sheehan comfortably, downing Blackburn Rovers 3-0. Since then, Sheehan's side have won a further six games, drawn twice and also lost twice.

They've taken points from the likes of Leeds, Middlesbrough and Sunderland and one of their two defeats came against Burnley, who themselves haven't tasted a league defeat since November.

Burnley are one of only two sides to have picked up more points than Swansea under Alan Sheehan. Leeds are the other, but they have also played one more game than the Swans in that time, so, based on points per game, Swansea sit second over the last two months.

With seven clean sheets in that time too, Alan Sheehan has built a defence which has conceded six goals - the same amount over an 11-game span as the record-breaking Burnley side.

Swansea may be dangerous if this momentum carries into next season

Many may argue that the run of form has coincided with Swansea having a favourable run of fixtures over the last couple of months.

Wins against Derby, Plymouth and Hull are almost to be expected given their league position, and their win against Blackburn came during Rovers' terrible form in the first month of Valerien Ismael's reign.

However, the old saying is that you can only beat what's in front of you, and Swansea's incredible defensive form during that time is arguably more impressive, and the reason why Swans fans should be optimistic if Sheehan is to stay going into next season.

The 38-year-old believes that his plans must align with the Swansea board if he is to continue, stating that his future will be a "mutual decision" between himself and the club.

For now, it's about looking to finish inside the top ten for a second time in the last four seasons, with the hope of then mounting a convincing play-off charge next campaign for the first time since the 2020/21 season.
