The scenario: Both teams finished in fourth place in their respective domestic leagues last season. BVB have lost only one of their last seven Champions League matches. The Black & Yellows have tended to start European campaigns strongly, winning their opening game in three of the last four seasons. Borussia Dortmund's first-ever away win in Europe's elite club competition came in Turin in November 1995, when goals from Michael Zorc and Lars Ricken sealed a 2-1 victory.

Head-to-head record: The two clubs are set to go head-to-head in a European competition for the 11th time. Eight of their 10 clashes to date came between 1993 and 1997 – three of which were European finals. Borussia Dortmund lost both legs of the 1993 UEFA Cup final (3-1 at home and 3-0 away), but won the UEFA Champions League final against Juve in 1997 (3-1). Champions League: Borussia Dortmund are taking part in the UEFA Champions League for the 20th time overall – and for the 10th time in a row. They have reached the knockout phase in 10 of their last 11 campaigns and have participated in three finals (1997, 2013 and 2024). Juventus are represented in the competition for the 25th time and have reached the final five times, but have won the title only once (1996). The Italians have not gone beyond the round of 16 since 2019/20.

Juventus facts: With an official tally of 36 "Scudetti" and 15 Coppa Italia triumphs, the club are both Italy's record champions and cup winners. And they are one of only five clubs to have won the three major European trophies. Juventus have an even record against Bundesliga opponents in the UEFA Champions League, with 11 victories, five draws and 11 defeats. The Italians lost their last such match (by a 1-0 scoreline) at home to VfB Stuttgart in October 2024.

Borussia facts: BVB have won seven of their 13 away games in the UEFA Champions League over the last two seasons, losing on only five occasions (plus one draw). Of their 20 away matches in Italy, however, the Black & Yellows have managed to win on only five occasions, while there have also been two draws.
