Alexander Isak is celebrating a milestone moment after scoring twice in the first half of Newcastle’s clash with Nottingham Forest.
Isak bagged a brace as Newcastle recovered from a goal down to lead 4-1 at half-time. The Swedish striker’s double has seen him reach 50 goals in the Premier League. Isak has been a huge hit since signing for the Magpies from Real Sociedad in a £63m club-record deal.
He has reached the half-century milestone in just 76 appearances, becoming the seventh-fastest player in Premier League history to achieve the feat.
Erling Haaland holds the record, following his explosive start in English football. The Norwegian scored a single-season record of 36 goals during his debut season at Manchester City and reached 50 in the Premier League in just 48 appearances.
That return obliterated the previous record of 65 appearances, held by former Newcastle and Manchester United forward Andy Cole. The latter’s first season in the Premier League saw him score 34 goals for newly-promoted Newcastle to win the division’s Golden Boot and the PFA Young Player of the Year award.
The Premier League’s record goalscorer, Alan Shearer, rounds out the top three. Shearer needed 66 games to reach the landmark, during a prolific period at Blackburn Rovers.
He scored 112 goals in 138 league appearances for Blackburn before joining boyhood club Newcastle United in a £15m deal in 1996. Shearer is the only player in Premier League history to have reached a century of goals for two different clubs.
