Marc Skinner says Gabby George and Fridolina Rolfo won’t be available for Manchester United as they face SK Brann in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
But they should both be part of the squad for the weekend’s Women’s Super League match against London City Lionesses.
“We have to be careful with these games coming thick and fast, so both should be available for the weekend,” Skinner said in his pre-match press conference.
He had said to the club’s official website earlier in the week that he was looking forward to welcoming them both back soon as well as former England striker Rachel Williams.
He also revealed in his press conference that Hannah Blundell will be playing up to an hour for the under-21s at Carrington on Wednesday as she continues her return from maternity leave – and that the first-team squad will be watching some of that match before flying out to Norway for the first leg.
Via the official website, he reassured fans that the club would be looking to add to the squad during the next transfer window – but that his players were already well equipped for the challenges in front of them.
“The quality in our group is incredible, especially going into these games, we’re relying on the experience we’ve brought in and the experience we already have in the team. It’s going to be vital for us.
“I’m really happy with the quality and experience of the group but we are looking to work to bring players in as we need that depth and quality.”
Of Brann, he said: “They are fluid in attack, they build between different shapes, they have some real high talent, they score goals. The reality is for them maybe they’ve not played a team of our calibre as well, which will be a different viewpoint for them too, and something they have to be aware of.
“Watching their qualifiers against Braga and [Inter], they deserved to go through. Watching their recent game, they’re pretty comfortable in the league.
“For us it’s about respecting the opponent, understanding their strengths and weaknesses, but also making sure we impart ourselves on the game. If we do that, then Brann will have a tough evening.”
Manchester United play SK Brann on Thursday, 11th September, and return to WSL action on Sunday, 14th September against London City Lionesses.
