Manchester United have again turned to a former player, with Michael Carrick returning on an interim basis after Ruben Amorim’s departure.
According to NY Times, a club legend was nominated for each team who could take an interim role if required.
Candidates could include Arsenal with Freddie Ljungberg, Aston Villa with Olof Mellberg, Bournemouth with Adam Smith, Brentford with Kevin O’Connor, and Brighton with Andrew Crofts.
Burnley with Michael Duff, Chelsea with Frank Lampard, Crystal Palace with Paddy McCarthy, Everton with Leighton Baines, and Fulham with Luis Boa Morte were also proposed.
Further options named were Leeds United with Gary McAllister, Liverpool with Steven Gerrard, Manchester City with Ilkay Gundogan, Manchester United with John O’Shea, and Newcastle United with Alan Shearer.
Nottingham Forest with Chris Cohen, Sunderland with John O’Shea, Tottenham with Robbie Keane, West Ham with Julian Dicks, and Wolves with Robbie Keane completed the suggestions.
Keane could feasibly be considered by more than one club, while Ljungberg already has experience of the caretaker role at Arsenal.
