What a week it's been for Assan Ouédraogo. On Monday, the 19-year-old made his debut for the Germany national team, scored directly after coming on and celebrated securing qualification for the 2026 World Cup with his teammates at the Red Bull Arena.

On Sunday afternoon, he picked up exactly where he left off.

Lynchpin in a big win

In the first half, Assan went close with two efforts from range. But in the 63rd minute, Bremen goalkeeper Mio Backhaus was powerless. Assan let fly from around 20 yards out, with his supposedly weaker left foot at that.

Seconds later, the ball nestled in the top left corner of the Bremen goal, far out of Backhaus' reach. "I don't care what foot I score goals with. I tried a couple of times with my right foot today and it didn't work out, so I had a go with my left - and it worked out amazingly." And how.

Catalyst in a home win

In a close game, that was still goalless up to that point, his goal was the catalyst for the side's fifth home win in their fifth home game of the season. The midfielder isn't focusing too much on the fact that he made the difference again at only 19 years old.

"The coach gives us all the confidence to show what we can do. No matter who is out there on the pitch, if you're older or younger, everyone gives it their all for the other players. At the moment, things are going well.

His Perspective

And what does Assan think about the past seven days?

"I'd say that it was more or less a perfect week. First, I scored for the national team and now I've bagged again - it doesn't get much better."On Friday, they go again. It's likely that Assan will leave his mark on the game against Gladbach, too.
