Wolves have shifted from fearing an unwanted Premier League record to eyeing several lowly benchmarks they could overhaul, with seven games left and 21 points still on the table.
ExpressAndStar.com notes the club dismissed Vitor Pereira after a bleak start and turned to former defender Rob Edwards, yet early results kept them rooted to the bottom.
An improvement over the festive period brought points that took them beyond Derby County’s record-low 11 in 2007/08, then past Southampton’s 12 last season and Sunderland’s 15 in 2005/06. They also cleared the 16-point hauls of Sheffield United in 2023/24 and Huddersfield Town in 2018/19, and now sit level with the total Aston Villa recorded in 2017/18 when they were relegated.
Next targets include 19 points by Sunderland in 2002/03, 21 by Norwich City in 2019/20, 22 by Norwich in 2021/22, and 23 by Sheffield United in 2020/21.
Further low marks to chase are 24 by Watford in 1999/00 and Sunderland in 2016/17, plus 25 by Wolves in 2011/12, QPR in 2012/13 and Southampton in 2022/23.
Beyond that lie 26 by Bradford City in 2000/01, 28 by Leicester City in 2001/02 and Watford in 2006/07, and 30 by Cardiff City in 2013/14 and QPR in 2014/15.
