Not for the first time this season, Real Madrid were left seething at the standards of officiating in Spain's top flight at the weekend.

The defending La Liga champions have been outspoken in their frustrations previously and Saturday was no different having seen Jude Bellingham dismissed in their 1-1 draw with Osasuna.

The Englishman saw red for supposedly saying "f**k you" to referee Jose Luis Munuera Montero but Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti revealed that Bellingham actually remarked "f**k off" - subsequently accusing Munuera Montero of misunderstanding the sentiment behind such an outburst.

Regardless, Bellingham's punishment has since been confirmed, with the 21-year-old set to miss upcoming matches for the Spanish giants.

While Madrid are planning to appeal the final verdict, Bellingham has been handed a two-game ban for the time being. With games coming thick and fast in the build-up to the March international break, the attacking midfielder will be sorely missed by Ancelotti and his team,

The England international will now be sidelined for league meetings at home to Girona (23 February) and away to Real Betis (2 March). With Madrid having surrendered their La Liga lead to rivals Barcelona over the weekend, they can ill-afford any slip-ups in the coming weeks if they want to claim back-to-back titles.

Bellingham's two-match suspension applies only to La Liga, however, meaning that he will be available in other competitions.

The dynamo will feature in the Champions League play-off second leg with Manchester City on Wednesday evening having scored the stoppage-time winner at the Etihad Stadium during a 3-2 victory in the previous round.

He will also be available to Ancelotti for the first leg of Madrid's Copa del Rey semi-final with Real Sociedad (26 February), with Los Blancos travelling to San Sebastian as they seek to reclaim their title from last year's victors Athletic Club.

In La Liga, Bellingham won't make his comeback until Rayo Vallecano (9 March) visit the Santiago Bernabeu - providing Madrid's expected appeal is unsuccessful.

Who can replace Jude Bellingham for Real Madrid?

Madrid have an impressive arsenal of attacking options but the drop-off from their regular offensive quartet is steep. Even more onus will be placed on the creativity of Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo during matches with Girona and Real Betis.

But Madrid still have able deputies waiting in the wings, one of whom is Brahim Diaz. The Morocco international has been a useful option off the bench and in cup competitions for Ancelotti, with ten goals contributions already this term. He can certainly plug the gap in the short-term.

Arda Guler is another attacking midfielder capable of filling the void. The young Turkey international has eight goal contributions himself this term, albeit he's seldom been trusted to start La Liga and Champions League fixtures.
