The Serie A Run In: Ten Games to Decide The Scudetto

Milan completed a first league double over rivals Inter since the 2010/11 season to potentially claw their way back into the title picture.

Inter had been on a 15-game unbeaten run in Serie A, picking up 43 points from a possible 45. Sunday’s defeat in the Derby della Madonnina ended that sensational streak.

With ten matches remaining and seven points separating first place Inter and second place Milan, the title race is not yet dead.

Can Inter Hold On?

After 28 games last season, Inter sat top of the league. In the remaining ten, they would pick up 20 points from a possible 30 and as a result Napoli were crowned champions.

A year on, it’s a similar story. With ten left to be played they lead the pack, however, this time there is a larger seven-point gap.

Inter’s run to the Champions League final last year wouldn’t have done their league campaign any favours, so this time round a 21st title will take priority.

The most difficult fixtures come in three of the next four. At home to Atalanta and Roma followed by the short trip to Como.

An away fixture on the final day may also play a factor, Christian Chivu’s side will take on a Bologna side battling for Europe.

Allegri After Number Seven?

Massimiliano Allegri stressed to the media before the derby that Milan were only focused on themselves: ““We have to think about ourselves more than about the Serie A title race. We focus on ourselves and on our objective,” he said to DAZN.

Allegri is by far the more experienced of the two managers and will be aware of what it takes to win a title.

Standout fixtures in the remaining ten include Napoli away and at home to Juventus and Atalanta.

Milan will play their final league match at the San Siro, at home to Cagliari.

Opta remains heavily in favour of Inter winning the race, giving them a 93.54% chance of lifting the Scudetto.

The expected points for the remainder of the season would see Inter sat on 86.99 and Milan comfortably behind on 78.32.

Despite the two derby wins, Milan will need their rivals to significantly drop off while also remaining practically perfect.

As it stands, Inter won’t be left to rue misses from Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Federico Dimarco.
