The two Inter goalies have completely different moods, as Yann Sommer has started every game and has righted the ship after a substandard start, while Josep Martinez has yet to log a single minute even though the team invested €13 to acquire him from Genoa.
The Swiss veteran spoke to the club’s TV (via Tuttomercatoweb).
“We reached the massive goal of winning the Scudetto last year. I’m very happy and proud of what we achieved. It meant a lot for all of us. It was a special campaign for the squad, the management, and the coaching staff. We worked really well. We’ll try to do it again.”
While Sommer is over the moon, Martinez has been linked with a potential departure on loan, but his agent Sergio Barila shut it down in an interview with L’Interista.
“He’s been fine in Milan on a personal level. He’s in one of the best teams in Europe. It’s a good opportunity for him to grow. Like any footballer, he’s happier when he plays, but he has a high-level teammate who’s starting. We have to respect the decisions of the coach. He’s working to be ready. He’s an excellent goalie, and I’m sure everybody will be happy when he’s fielded. That’s 100 percent sure. He’s very good with his feet. It’s normal for other sides to inquire if they have a need. However, we pondered our choice before joining. His thoughts are only for the Nerazzurri now.”
Despite having Sommer and Josep Martinez in the squad and a recent denial by his agent Alessandro Pastorello, Inter are waiting in the wings to add Alex Meret on a free if he doesn’t re-up with Napoli, La Gazzetta dello Sport informed.
