Harry Kane insists that he joined Bayern Munich from Tottenham to win matches on the biggest stage
The striker scored twice in the German side’s 3-1 win over Chelsea to get them off to the perfect start in the Champions League.
Since joining Munich in 2023, Kane has already won the Bundesliga and big Champions League matches including wins over Arsenal and PSG. He is keen to push on and win more titles with the Bavarian side in the future.
“These are games that I came to Bayern Munich to play,” Kane said. “I came here to play on the biggest stage.”
“These types of nights against the biggest teams show my level. I still feel like I’ve got a lot to give at this level and it’s been a good start to the season so far.”
Bayern Munich have won the Champions League six times in their history, most recently in 2020, but the trophy has eluded Kane so far.
“As I know, probably more than anyone, it’s tough to win these big trophies,” the striker said. “You have to be at a high level for a sustained period of time and mainly when it counts most in the last three, four months of the season.
“So that’s always my aim to try and, you know, peak towards those months. And hopefully I can do that this year.”
The England captain believes there is an expectation at the German club to always be there at the latter stages of the competition every year.
“I think Bayern Munich are always probably top five favourites before the competition starts, if I’m totally honest, that’s an expectation we have at the club.” Kane explained.
“Of course there’ll be mind games maybe and people trying to say otherwise but we know what we want to do. Ultimately, we’re at the start of that journey, it’s the first game. There’s even more games than there used to be in the Champions League now so there’s a long mountain to climb from now until the final.
“There’s going to be some tough, tough battles, there’s going to be some highs and lows for sure. I think the team that can endure the pressure the best will be the ones to come out on top.”
