Thiago Mendes has been cleared by the STJD on Thursday and is available to face Flamengo in the Brasileirão on Sunday, according to Globo.com.

The Vasco midfielder was cited for remarks made in the mixed zone after last Sunday’s defeat to Corinthians at Neo Química Arena, in the 13th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.

He had criticised referee Davi de Oliveira Lacerda and was charged under article 258 of the CBJD, which covers conduct contrary to discipline or sporting ethics. The panel’s vote ended in a tie, which favoured the defence led by Vasco-appointed lawyer Pedro Henrique Moreira.

Mendes said the referee blew repeatedly for Corinthians, questioned whether crowd pressure played a role, and suggested that when pressure is high officials tend to favour the home side.

He has also been undergoing treatment after suffering a heavy tackle on his ankle from André of Corinthians, leaving Neo Química Arena in significant pain.
