After the important victory against Paris Saint-Germain at the Stade Louis (1-0), the CEO of AS Monaco spoke in the mixed zone to discuss the team's performance.
The team showed a completely different side of themselves in the big match of the 14th round of Ligue 1 McDonald’s. Combative from start to finish against the reigning European champions, the Rouge et Blanc ultimately secured a crucial win against Saint-Germain (1-0). Following the match, the Club’s CEO, Thiago Scuro spoke with themedia.🎙️
Good evening, Thiago. This is a crucial victory tonight…
Yes, it’s an important win, but it’s just one step, because each match is only worth three points! Just as we didn’t panic in the face of the difficult situation we’ve been going through these past few weeks, we mustn’t get carried away. Tonight we showed our worth on the pitch, where I think we deserved our victory, creating a lot of chances. We could have scored even more, something we need to try and address in the future.
We were unlucky not to score in the first half, where Lucas Chevalier made a very good save on the rebound against Takumi Minamino before Mohammed Salisu had a great opportunity. Congratulations to our players and staff, because this match can have a positive impact going forward, as these are very important points.
You showed that Paris Saint-Germain isn’t invincible!
The most important thing is that we showed we’re capable of delivering top-level performances, and tonight’s Champions League-level match demonstrated the strength of our league, with its many excellent players. We should all be proud of that, especially considering the absence of key players on both sides. We were able to put on a great performance in front of our fans, showcasing the quality of French football, and now we need to build on that week after week.
We are not happy with our level of play since the start of the season, that's the reality, but to address the problems, we need to be smart and act step by step to solve them one by one. A lot of effort is being put in by everyone who represents AS Monaco to find solutions, which is why I ask our supporters to believe in the people in charge, because we will be back!

Can you build on this success?
We build things from losses, draws, and wins, but in terms of confidence and certainty, it’s definitely important to have won tonight! Results are sometimes unfair, like this week in Pafos, where if the ball hadn’t bounced in the goal, things would have been different. We’ve shown some good things on the pitch lately, even though this season has been quite difficult to manage with a lot of inconsistency in our performances.

Did we see the best of AS Monaco tonight?
No, I think we can do even better! We have the qualities to be even better, more consistent, and to convert more of the chances we create to score more goals. But the most important thing is that we have the quality in this team to create chances, as we have shown in recent matches. We also saw tonight that we are capable of defending very well, being consistently aggressive, courageous, and constantly pressing the opposition, to the point of being able to trouble any team, as we did against Paris today.
Sometimes things go in the right direction, sometimes not so much, and I make the decisions that seem most appropriate to me, so that the Club gets the results it deserves. AS Monaco is more important than anything, and as long as I'm here, I'll give my all!

How can one explain the inconsistency of recent weeks?
It’s not fair to always place the blame on the coach, as is sometimes the case in modern football. Our instability stems from several factors, including this summer and the fact that we changed coaches mid-season. Sébastien Pocognoli arrived during a period with two matches per week. He works very hard, is very transparent and clear with the players, so I’m also happy for him tonight with this victory! I also ask for patience from the fans and you in the media, so that he can work in peace.
I respect it! We weren’t the best in the world after two very good seasons, and just as I didn’t take things personally when they were positive, I don’t take them personally when they were negative. I don’t work in this field to be liked, and every time I’m criticized, it’s extra motivation to work even harder. So I respect all criticism! Sometimes things go in the right direction, sometimes not so much, and I make the decisions that seem most appropriate to me, so that the Club gets the results it deserves. AS Monaco is more important than anything, and as long as I’m here, I’ll give my all!
