Thomas Bramall, who faced scrutiny for a string of calls in Leeds United’s 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace, will be fourth official for Sunday’s Carabao Cup final between Manchester City and Arsenal.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, he will work alongside referee Peter Bankes, assistants Neil Davies and Steve Meredith, with John Brooks on VAR, and is off domestic league duties this weekend as standard procedure.

At Selhurst Park, Bramall dismissed Leeds left-back Gabriel Gudmundsson for two bookings, the second viewed as soft. After a collision with Ismaila Sarr near halfway, he quickly produced a yellow and had to be reminded by Palace players and fourth official Paul Tierney that Gudmundsson had already been booked.

He then declined to show a second yellow to Palace wing-back Brennan Johnson after a foul on James Justin to halt a break, which was Johnson’s fourth infringement. Bramall did award Leeds a penalty for a Will Hughes handball, and his assistant correctly ruled out a Jefferson Lerma finish for offside.

The decisions dominated debate, with former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher saying the dismissal was correct and Johnson should have remained on. Other pundits and ex-officials disagreed, while Daniel Farke highlighted the inconsistency, insisting he was not seeking a red for Johnson but felt the dismissal influenced the contest and was grateful to leave with a point.
