Italy were knocked out by Bosnia in Tuesday's World Cup qualification play-offs, drawing 1-1 then losing 4-1 on penalties. It is a third straight absence, but three Italian coaches will still be in America this summer.

According to L'Équipe, Carlo Ancelotti with Brazil, Vincenzo Montella with Türkiye and Fabio Cannavaro with Uzbekistan are, barring any surprises, set to lead sides in June and July.

Ancelotti and Cannavaro, Italy's captain in their last World Cup knockout match in 2006, had long been assured after their teams qualified. Montella took Türkiye back to the finals after 24 years, thanks to a 1-0 win in Kosovo on Tuesday, following their bronze in Korea and Japan.

With three representatives, Italy's coaching contingent will be among the largest. Only Spain with four, and Argentina and France with six each, have more, with Spain's Luis de la Fuente, Roberto Martinez, Thomas Christiansen and Julen Lopetegui involved, and Argentina's Lionel Scaloni, Marcelo Bielsa, Mauricio Pochettino, Gustavo Alfaro, Néstor Lorenzo and Sebastian Beccacece.

Sébastien Desabre joined the French group after DR Congo beat Jamaica 1-0 after extra time in Tuesday's intercontinental play-offs, though Saudi Arabia coach Hervé Renard is expected to depart soon. The other French coaches qualified are Rudi Garcia with Belgium, Sabri Lamouchi with Tunisia, Sébastien Migné with Haiti and Didier Deschamps with France.
