There will be three decisive variables in whether Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi joins Roma this month.
Beyond the price tag, Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport via FCInterNews name the possibility of a player going the other way and the timing as key.
Roma are very keen on signing Inter and Italy midfielder Frattesi in January.
And for his part, Frattesi is ready to leave the Nerazzurri. He is fed up with a lack of playing time.
However, the Corriere note, Inter’s asking price would be very high for the 25-year-old.
The Nerazzurri want no less than €40 million for Frattesi. That would be well outside of Roma’s price range.
Roma could hope to chip away at Inter’s asking price for Frattesi, however. A couple million less could very well bring the move into reach.
And the Giallorossi’s strategy has also centred around offering a player in return. They are ready to propose a cash-plus-player swap.
Roma could reportedly offer either Lorenzo Pellegrini or Bryan Cristante.
If Inter were to open up to such an idea, then it would certainly make a transfer of Frattesi more feasible.
Lastly, there is the matter of the timing of a move.
Frattesi is unlikely to make the switch to the Italian capital in the next week. There are still Inter’s Champions League commitments among other factors keeping him at the San Siro.
However, Roma could step up their pursuit of the 25-year-old towards the end of the month.
