Marcus Thuram saluted ‘little brother’ Khephren after scoring twice in the 5-0 victory over Torino, while Alessandro Bastoni insisted last season wasn’t a ‘failure.’

The Nerazzurri could not have started the season with a more commanding performance, thrashing Torino 5-0 at San Siro.

Thuram bagged a brace, with Alessandro Bastoni, Lautaro Martinez and debutant Ange-Yoan Bonny on target too, while Franco Israel saves kept the scoreline down.

Tikus clearly enjoys facing Torino, as he has now scored six goals against them in Serie A.

“This victory means we started the season well and kept a clean sheet too. We are not at 100 per cent yet, but we’re working on it and this is a good start,” Thuram told Sky Sport Italia.

“What happened last season is in the past, this is a new campaign and we have learned from that experience.”

It was particularly special for Thuram, who waved a dedication to the stands where his father Lilian and brother Khephren were seated, and the Juventus midfielder responded with a thumbs up.

Was Khephren more happy for his brother or worried at the competition from Inter for the Scudetto?

“He came as my little brother, not as a Juve player. I love him like crazy and I’m very happy he came to see me in the stadium.”

Bastoni also joked in the post-match interview standing next to the Man of the Match, referring to the poor form from the Frenchman towards the end of last term.

“I am happy for Marcus, who chose the last six months of last season to go on vacation, but we’re glad he’s back,” joked Bastoni.

“We were all really eager to come back and prove to ourselves that despite a difficult end to the season, we were still hungry and wanted to show what we could do.”

Inter ended the campaign empty-handed, but Bastoni is adamant that coming so close to two big trophies doesn’t make them a failure.

“We reached the Champions League Final and finished one point off the Scudetto winners, so it’s true that we didn’t win any silverware, but I wouldn’t call it a failed campaign. A team that has nothing left doesn’t get to those levels.

“The team is here, the new arrivals gave us a lot of fire, and we are happy to have started the season well.”
