Manchester City’s star summer signing Tijjani Reijnders has revealed he has a clear target for goals and assists this season off the back of his stellar showing against Wolves.

The 26-year-old delivered an all-time great Premier League debut at the weekend as he ran the show for Manchester City in their 4-0 opening day win away at Wolves, notching a goal and assist to introduce himself to English football.

Having joined for £47 million from AC Milan this summer, the Netherlands international starred at the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States in June and alongside fellow new arrival Rayan Cherki, Reijnders has wasted no time in settling to life at the Etihad Stadium.

Just over thirty minutes into his Premier League debut at the Molineux Stadium, the midfielder sliced open the Wolves backline and presented a delicate chipped through ball to Rico Lewis, who squared the ball across the box for Erling Haaland to tap the ball into an empty net for the opener.

Speaking in the aftermath of his stellar performance against Wolves at the weekend, Reijnders revealed several fascinating insights into ambitions for the season in his various media commitments.

“We have a great squad and we have one goal and that’s to win as many trophies as possible,” the Dutch international told Manchester City’s in-house media team. “And we all have the same goal and we’re trying to reach that.”

Speaking to Sky Sports, Reijnders added: “That is our main goal; to win the Premier League. We all know what we want, and we’re really sharp to reach that goal.”

Reijnders was instrumental in everything Manchester City did when going forward at the weekend. Following the summer departure of Kevin De Bruyne and amid Ballon d’Or holder Rodri’s absence with injury, the new signing has seamlessly integrated into Guardiola’s methods and assumed the role of City’s architect-in-chief.

While speaking with NBC Sports as part of their coverage for viewers in the United States, Reijnders glowed when discussing the feeling of playing for the Etihad Stadium club as he said: “Playing for Manchester City is a proud feeling!

“Manchester is a great city, my family is very happy, and that makes me happy especially. If they are happy, I am happy, and I like how we live here in Manchester.”

Interestingly however, Reijnders also admitted to having a personal target for goals and assists this season as he said, “I will always keep it for myself, only my family knows… I try to do my best in every game and I hope I can help the team as much as possible with goals and assists.”

Pep Guardiola will be delighted with how well Manchester City’s summer acquisitions have adapted to his demands, with Rayan Cherki finding the net with his weaker foot from outside the box less than 10 minutes into his second half introduction against Wolves. James Trafford and Rayan Ait-Nouri also helped keep City a clean sheet on Saturday.
