Jurrien Timber has said he wants Arsenal to enjoy the title race after beating Chelsea to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League.
Timber scored the decisive goal in a clash decided by set pieces, heading in Declan Rice’s corner after a Piero Hincapie own goal had cancelled out William Saliba’s opener for Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta’s side were not at their best at the Emirates, but again leaned into their set-piece expertise. Arsenal have now scored 16 goals from corners in the Premier League this season, equalling the record for a single campaign.
Timber believes the Gunners deserved to beat Chelsea, who had Pedro Neto sent off for two quick-fire bookings, and urged his teammates to embrace the privilege of competing for trophies. The win moves Arsenal five points clear of Manchester City, having played a game more.
“We deserved to win this game. First half we don’t give much away. We go in at 1-1 but in the second half we finished it off which was top,” Timber said, speaking to Sky Sports.
“Both sides, it (corners) became an important part of the game. Today we came out well and overall we played a good game. We took the three points and then important game on Wednesday [against Brighton] again.
“We have to enjoy it. It is a privilege to be standing here with my team-mates, with Arsenal, we are fighting for these titles. You have to enjoy it, it’s a beautiful place and we are enjoying it. Game by game and at the end hopefully something beautiful.”
