TJD-SP has issued warnings to Palmeiras assistant João Martins and Guarani head coach Matheus Costa after their confrontation at the end of the 1-1 draw on 15 at Arena Crefisa Barueri in the Campeonato Paulista.
According to Globo.com, both were judged on Wednesday under article 258 of the CBJD, conduct contrary to discipline or sporting ethics, and the minimum one-match suspension was converted to a warning.
The flashpoint stemmed from Costa’s demand for fair play in a passage of play that he felt Palmeiras did not observe. Martins later said he had been insulted repeatedly, while Costa downplayed it as part of the game.
Referee João Vitor Gobi reported that he dismissed Costa for leaving his technical area and moving towards the Palmeiras bench, shouting profanities, calling Martins a coward and demanding the ball be returned. He then sent off Martins for replying with foul language, also leaving his area and walking towards the Guarani coach in a confrontational manner.
The report added that the pair were prevented from fighting by the officials and staff. In the tunnel they confronted each other again, and security had to intervene, with assistant Daniel Luis Marques relaying those details to the referee. The ruling allows Martins to sit alongside Abel Ferreira for Sunday’s semi-final against São Paulo in Barueri at 20:30 Brasília time.
