Tom Wagner may be considering replacements for Chris Davies at Birmingham City if they don't win promotion this season.

Birmingham City are hugely ambitious under their US owners, who haven’t been shy in stating where they expect the club to be in the years to come.

Therefore, whilst a mid-table finish in the Championship would normally be applauded for a newly-promoted side, it’s fair to say that doesn’t apply to Blues.

They were aggressive with their recruitment in League One, and many more statement signings have followed since the arrival of Jay Stansfield that really got the football world talking.

4 ? ? Chris Davies will be feeling the pressure at Birmingham City

Naturally, such spending brings pressure, and even though Davies has a lot of credit in the bank for the outstanding, record-breaking campaign Birmingham had last season, he knows that won’t last forever.

Reaching the Premier League is only the first step for Tom Wagner, so you would expect him to be ruthless if he feels someone else can take Blues to the top flight instead of Davies.

Of course, there are a lot of games to be played, and many connected to Birmingham will feel he can get the team back on track.

Yet, Wagner has a responsibility to plan for all scenarios, and here are THREE potential replacements that should be on his radar…

3 ? ? Sean Dyche

It would make sense for Wagner to consider managers who have delivered at this level in the past, and Dyche, who is currently without a club, has two promotions on his CV with Burnley.

The work he did at Turf Moor was superb, and he has since gone on to become a good Premier League manager.

So, there’s no guarantee he would drop to the Championship, but Birmingham are a club with huge potential, and they could give Dyche support to build the team he wants.

It may not always be pretty, but he could be the man to take Blues back to the Premier League and establish them at that level.

2 ? ? Bo Svensson

Another manager out of work, Svensson has a good reputation in Germany thanks to the remarkable job he did with Mainz, which started by keeping them in the Bundesliga against all odds, before recording two top half finishes and taking them to Europe.

Whilst it didn’t end how he would’ve wanted, and he had a short, difficult spell at Union Berlin, there’s no doubt that Svensson is a talented head coach.

He has been on the radar of Leeds and Wolves in the past, so, once more, he may need convincing to drop to the Championship, but the project at St. Andrew’s is sure to appeal.

Svensson would create an energetic, front-foot team, and it would be an exciting watch for Blues fans.

1 ? ? Jens Berthel Askou

Hearts may be the big story in Scotland to outsiders as they try to end the Glasgow dominance and win the title, but Motherwell’s 25/26 campaign is arguably the biggest surprise of all.

Under Askou, the Fir Park outfit has been transformed. He inherited a team that finished 8th last season, but they are now in the hunt for the league, and they have done it by playing some fantastic football with so many in the squad reaching levels that didn’t seem possible.

On a modest budget, Askou has made Motherwell the best team to watch in Scotland, and it seems a matter of time before he departs.

Askou would need time and support to implement his specific, possession based approach, but Wagner would provide that, and the prospect of the Dane working with higher quality players could make Birmingham a formidable side under his guidance.
