Cole Palmer doesn’t have a release clause in his new contract this summer based on Champions League football according to reports.

Palmer signed a new two year extension last year keeping him tied down at Stamford Bridge until 2033, after a record breaking campaign last season.

The 23-year-old hasn’t been able to hit those heights this season, but he’s still Chelsea’s top scorer with 15 goals, and ended an 18 game goalless streak with a late penalty in Sunday’s win against Liverpool.

No Champions League release clause in Palmer contract

After a strong start to the season the Blues suffered a big dip in form after Christmas, but it appears they are picking some form up at a crucial time.

Chelsea have recorded three Premier League wins in a row and now occupy the fifth and final Champions League spot with just three games remaining.

Palmer returned to form with a man of the match performance against Liverpool, with former Blue Claude Makelele comparing him to Arjen Robben.

Enzo Maresca had suggested the struggles of Palmer were mental rather than tactical, and he’ll be as relieved as anyone to see him return to form.

There’s been talk about Palmer’s future and he’s been linked with Real Madrid in the past, whilst there’s been reports of a release clause if the Blues don’t qualify for the Champions League.

However, Mail Sport have reported Palmer’s updated contract doesn’t contain any release clause this summer based on Champions League qualification.

Caicedo next to sign new deal

Chelsea have already rewarded Palmer and Nicolas Jackson with contract extensions and it appears Moises Caicedo could be next.

It’s been reported the Blues are planning to hold talks with Caicedo over a new deal, but the matter isn’t being described as urgent.

The 23-year-old has been absolutely superb this season, and was named Chelsea Player of The Year and Chelsea Players’ Player of The Year at the end of season awards.

It’s good to see Chelsea rewarding their top performers and hopefully it will put off any potential suitors from bidding.
