FC Bayern are apparently looking at a prominent name – but competition is emerging in the poker game for the star defender
Manchester City central defender John Stones has recently been linked with the German record champions, but Munich are not alone: according to Football Insider, Everton FC are also reportedly keeping an eye on the 31-year-old Englishman
It would be a return move for the Toffees. Stones already played for Liverpool from 2013 to 2016 before moving to Manchester City for the equivalent of around €55 million. Now the circle could be complete
The contract situation of the England international is particularly interesting. His contract with Manchester City expires at the end of the season, meaning that Stones would be available on a free transfer – at least as far as a direct transfer fee is concerned
However, there is speculation that the veteran could demand a considerable hand money in the event of a move, meaning that a supposedly inexpensive transfer could still end up being expensive
Bayern do not actually have any pressure to act in central defense following Dayot Upamecano’s contract extension, but top defender Stones could be an interesting option if Minjae Kim were to leave
It had previously been reported in England that FC Bayern were looking at Stones. Initial contacts are said to have been made behind the scenes. In particular, links to coach Vincent Kompany and compatriot Harry Kane could play a role

At the same time, the track was not considered to be really hot recently. Now the interest from Everton brings new momentum to the personnel issue
One thing is clear: FC Bayern are still looking at options for the defense – and in the case of Stone, may have to prepare for a transfer duel with his former club.
