Torino turn down Crystal Palace bid for Alieu Njie | OneFootball

Crystal Palace have seen an opening offer for Torino forward Alieu Njie rejected, according to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla.

The Eagles are in the market for attacking reinforcements ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

Palace have made a relatively quiet start to the summer transfer window. The same sluggishness that frustrated Oliver Glasner has continued under new boss Pierre Sage.

However, the South London club is now accelerating recruitment plans as preparations continue for the Frenchman’s first season in charge at Selhurst Park.

Palace submitted a proposal worth €10 million upfront for the Sweden Under-21 international.

There will be performance-related bonuses to take the overall package to between €16 million and €17 million.

Interestingly, Torino immediately turned down the bid and have made it clear they are not looking to cash in on one of their brightest young talents this summer.

They value Njie’s long-term potential highly, having already rejected interest from Belgian giants Anderlecht earlier in the transfer window.

Palace could yet return with an improved offer if they decide the 21-year-old remains a key attacking target.

Njie progressed through Torino’s academy after joining from Sweden in 2021 and broke into the senior side last season.

The Crystal Palace target made 15 Serie A appearances, scoring once, and has now featured 35 times for the club across all competitions.

Palace do not need Njie

Njie is undoubtedly a player with potential, but he hardly looks like the signing that transforms Palace’s attack.

One goal in 15 Serie A appearances last season suggests he is a raw prospect and not a proven solution.

While there is value in investing in youth, Pierre Sage also needs players capable of making an immediate impact if Palace are to push on.

Palace would be better served exploring alternatives with better end product and more experience.
