Barcelona returned to the top of La Liga with a 3-0 win over Oviedo on Sunday. Torrential rain left the newly reopened Camp Nou leaking, reclaiming top spot from Real Madrid.
The city was hit by a deluge and players and supporters finished drenched. Images on social media showed water seeping through the structure, pooling centimetres deep and spilling onto reporters’ desks.
The ground reopened in November and remains a building site, with the roof not due until summer 2027.
"We expected to get wet because the roof is not yet finished," said Joan Laporta. He was speaking on El club de la mitjanit.
"I had not planned to bring an umbrella, and I could not change because I had official commitments." He added: "The stadium is under construction and we will repair what needs to be repaired as we go. Everything is proceeding as planned."
