Total impunity: Luis Suárez may not face punishment until next season

Luis Suárez turned to the broadcast cameras during the first half of Sporting vs FC Porto and made gestures insinuating “theft.” The case is currently being reviewed by the Disciplinary Council and, according to the newspaper O Jogo, a verdict is not expected this season.

The incident will be investigated after FC Porto submitted a complaint to the Disciplinary Council of the Portuguese Football Federation. The same source indicates that the process is expected to extend until the 2026/27 season, meaning any possible sanction would only be applied next season.

In accordance with current regulations, Luis Suárez risks a suspension of between two and eight games. André Villas-Boas, president of FC Porto, commented on the situation at the end of the match.
