Tottenham have been dealt a massive blow after Cristian Romero was ruled out of the Champions League clash against Monaco.

The central defender has been batting an adductor issue and it has been decided that he will play no part against Monaco on Wednesday night as he did not travel with the squad.

Speaking after the loss to Villa, Thomas Frank insisted Romero’s problem was only a “minor”, but admitted he did not know whether Romero would be fit to face Monaco.

The Argentine was then absent from Tottenham's open training session on Tuesday, with Frank confirming in his pre-match press conference that his captain will play no part against the Ligue 1 side.

"It's an adductor strain, we will assess it more this week before we confirm any timeframe,” the Spurs head coach said.

Tottenham will also be without Destiny Udogie for the Champions League clash after the full-back picked up a knock while on international duty with Italy, causing him to be left out of the travelling squad.

Frank added: "No, the latest is that he got that knee irritation after international duty. We are assessing and working very hard to get on top of it. We'll know more day by day."
