Tottenham Hotspur are considering a fresh move for Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha after the option to buy him expired, according to the Sun.

They signed the 30-year-old Portuguese on loan last summer, with an option to buy him for €30 million.

That option expired yesterday, with Spurs clearly looking to pay less for Palhinha and also sign him on reduced wages after failing to qualify for Europe.

The Bayern star has reportedly reached an agreement to join Sporting CP, but no deal has been struck between the two clubs.

Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi wants the Lilywhites to sign the midfielder and has gone public with it.

“Yes, I would like to keep him, 100 percent,” the Italian said after Palhinha bagged the winner in the 1-0 victory over Everton last month to keep Tottenham up.

The midfielder made 45 appearances for Spurs, bagging seven goals and three assists.

De Zerbi will hope to lead the club to a top-five finish next season and secure Champions League football for 2027-28, and he could do with Palhinha in the middle of the park.

The Italian wants a squad overhaul this summer after claiming only 12 players out of the 28 players at the club are good enough to stay beyond this season.

Bayern will have to lower their €30m fee or agree to another loan deal for Palhinha to be at Spurs next season.

Tottenham do not have plenty of wiggle room in their budget ahead of the summer transfer window after missing out on Europe.
