Tottenham Hotspur have identified Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton as a priority target for the summer transfer window (h/t journalist Dean Jones).

Spurs have several other midfield options on their radar, including Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali, who has plenty of suitors keen on him.

However, Wharton stands out on their shortlist and is the midfielder Tottenham would ideally like to bring to London.

The Lilywhites have had the 22-year-old England international on their radar for more than 12 months, and they believe this summer could be the best time to sign him.

However, they could face fierce rivalry from Liverpool for Wharton.

Manager Andoni Iraola also admires the Palace star, and the opportunity to win trophies and play in the Champions League could appeal to him.

The Eagles want to hold on to Wharton after qualifying for next season’s Europa League following their Europa Conference League triumph last term.

Spurs missed out on Europe having nearly been relegated and could struggle to convince the Palace star to join them.

Signing him would be huge for De Zerbi given what he brings to the table, and the Englishman has what it takes to improve the club’s fortunes on the pitch.

Wharton has also been linked with Manchester United, but their interest appears to have cooled. Spurs may have only Liverpool as their major obstacle to signing him.
