Tottenham supporters received a welcome lift ahead of their Premier League visit to Leeds with confirmation that Cristian Romero is back in the starting eleven. The captain missed the midweek draw with Bodo/Glimt, described only as a precaution, but he trained on Thursday and has been cleared to return.
“Yes, Romero is fit and available, and he will start tomorrow,” confirmed Thomas Frank in his press conference. “Promising news. I think there was a contact to the foot, and the medical did a good job to get him turned around, so trained and ready for tomorrow.”

There is an awkward statistic lurking in the background. Tottenham have not won their final match before an international break for two years. Last season’s defeat to Bournemouth extended that unwelcome run and Elland Road is rarely a forgiving venue. Leeds will relish the fight, particularly in an early kick-off when the atmosphere crackles from the first whistle.
Joao Palhinha is expected to return to the Tottenham midfield after his substitute appearance in Europe, while Archie Gray is pushing for involvement against his former club. The young midfielder came on in midweek and could feature from the start at the weekend.
Mohammed Kudus is likely to reclaim his spot on the right after being surprisingly benched in the Champions League. Xavi Simons, meanwhile, is in contention to make his first Premier League start in the number ten role.
Up front, fatigue is catching up with Richarlison but he may be required to lead the line once more. Dominic Solanke remains sidelined after ankle surgery and Randal Kolo Muani has not yet recovered from a dead leg.
Yves Bissouma and Kota Taki have returned to training and could bolster the matchday squad. Barring any late changes, Tottenham are expected to line up as follows:
Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Palhinha, Sarr; Kudus, Simons, Odobert; Richarlison
Leeds will be eyeing vulnerability in transition, while Tottenham will be hoping Romero’s return brings the calm and authority required to break their pre-break curse. Victory at Elland Road could set the tone for the months ahead.
