Tottenham Hotspur are looking for a new left-winger and have Benfica star Andreas Schjelderup on their shortlist of targets, according to A Bola.
The Spurs target caught the eye on international duty with Norway, impressing with his directness and remarkable one-v-one ability.
Tottenham are in the market for a new left-sided winger after the North London outfit failed to properly replace Son Heung-Min following his departure.
Mathys Tel is too inconsistent to nail down a starting spot while Wilson Odobert has spent a chunk of his time with the club sidelined.
Schjelderup would be an exciting pick-up for Tottenham. He looks like a better fit for the role than the two Frenchmen.
The 22-year-old bagged 10 goals and seven assists in 43 appearances last term, earmarking himself as one for the future.
He is poised for an explosion in the coming season, and Spurs might be tempted to gamble on him going up several notches in England, where he dreams of playing.
However, they are not alone in the race to sign him, with Liverpool and Manchester United also interested.
Benfica are calm as he has a €100 million release clause and his World Cup performances have boosted his value beyond the €40m being discussed at the end of last season.
Schjelderup has the talent to become a top Premier League winger, but Tottenham cannot afford to build their attack on potential alone.
After an inconsistent campaign, Roberto De Zerbi needs players capable of making an immediate impact rather than waiting for another youngster to develop.
Spurs have already invested heavily in prospects across the squad and now require proven quality to close the gap on the league’s elite.
That is why established names such as Marcus Rashford or Ferran Torres would make far more sense.
Both have delivered at the highest level and possess the experience and end product to transform Tottenham’s attack from day one.
