Tottenham Hotspur welcome Everton to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon, knowing their Premier League status is still not mathematically secure.
A draw will likely be enough to guarantee survival, but anything less could drag Spurs into one of the most astonishing relegation collapses in Premier League history.
The stakes could hardly be higher in north London.
Tottenham’s season has reached its defining moment. Spurs sit just above the drop zone heading into the final day.
However, safety is far from assured after a chaotic campaign marked by inconsistency and collapse.
A midweek 2-1 defeat ensured Tottenham missed the chance to settle the issue early, leaving everything riding on Sunday.
Now, the equation is brutally simple. Avoid defeat, and Spurs almost certainly survive.
But nothing about this season has been simple for Tottenham.
They are winless in 10 home league games, their worst run in decades, and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has become a nervy, unpredictable environment.
Everton arrive with little pressure but plenty of frustration.
David Moyes’ side are winless in six Premier League matches and have repeatedly thrown away leads in recent weeks.
However, they have been one of the league’s most dangerous away sides in terms of moments created, and they will relish the chance to spoil Spurs’ survival bid.
Tottenham have also dominated this fixture in recent seasons, including a 3-0 win earlier this campaign, and have lost just one of their last 16 league home games to Everton.
But history only counts for so much on a final day like this.
Tottenham have not lost their final league game in consecutive seasons since 2008/09 and 2009/10.
Everton have won just one of their last 16 Premier League away games at Spurs.
Spurs are winless in 10 home league matches (D4, L6). Everton are winless in six Premier League games (D3, L3).
Tottenham have lost just one of their last seven home league games against Everton.
Everton have led in each of their last three Premier League matches but failed to win any.
Spurs last finished as low as 17th in consecutive seasons over a century ago.
Spurs will assess the 28-year-old to determine whether he starts or features from the bench. The latter option is more likely.
Roberto De Zerbi might stubbornly stick with the uninspiring Randal Kolo Muani on the right wing as he has done for weeks.
James Maddison is also fit enough to play, although De Zerbi admitted his minutes will be carefully managed after recent substitute appearances.
Djed Spence is available despite a facial injury, while Richarlison is expected to continue in attack after another influential display in midweek.
Tottenham remain without Cristian Romero, Dejan Kulusevski, Xavi Simons and Mohammed Kudus, while Ben Davies also misses out.
Antonin Kinsky; Pedro Porro, Kevin Danso, Micky van de Ven, Destiny Udogie; João Palhinha, Rodrigo Bentancur; Randal Kolo Muani, James Maddison, Mathys Tel; Richarlison.
